Theme Change

Surprise! View from a Farley is switching designs at this very moment. There are a few bugs that will have to be ironed out, but, to use Bill O’Reilly’s words, we’ve decided to do it live!

You may notice a few bugs. I’ll keep you updated here!

UPDATE (23 July 2008): Still working through some issues, including pages appearing like posts. There will also be some minor design changes.

Chris, what is this theme? I like the comments and the overall layout. Your posts are easy to identify.

While adding my comment I noticed that you use intense debate. Is there a reason you chose them over hosting your own wordpress installation? Or is it a place you just ended up?

Hey John, This theme was designed by Matthew Heidenreich (http://www.ezgraphicstudio.com/) “>http://www.ezgraphicstudio.com/) specifically for View from a Farley. He's done a great job and I'm really very pleased! The theme was coded by Adam Kiss (http://www.adamk.likeu.sk). “>http://www.adamk.likeu.sk). This is Adam's first Wordpress theme and he's also been very receptive to changes. He's managed to do a great job even though it's his first time! Thanks for commenting, CF

John, Intense Debate comments are the best from a user standpoint and will be the best from an administrator standpoint when they roll out some super-secret changes. The simple ability to reply to another person's comment instead of creating an entirely new comment is not found in many commenting systems but is essential for a blog like this where I'd like a lot of interaction between me and between readers to take place. I also love the ability to build up reputation. Add all that to their awesome support team and their receptiveness to feedback and you have the best commenting system I've ever used from the user side and one of the best from the administrator side. CF

Great response. You have such a great ability to write very well. I may look into incorporating Intense Debate into my personal and business blog at http://www.bowlingball.com/wordpress/. “>http://www.bowlingball.com/wordpress/. It seems very difficult to get people to leave feedback sometimes. But we will keep plugging away at it.

Wow Chris! Nicely done! I've passed along your kind words to the entire ID team – it's a great way to start a Monday off. This is an awesome testimonial that might have to go up on our site (with your permission of course). Thanks!

John, thanks for giving IntenseDebate a try. One of our ultimate goals is to improve the commenting experience and make the conversation more accessible. This generally makes your readers more likely to post several comments on your post and ultimately leads to a nice lift in page views. I agree that Chris has such a great way with words for such a youngster. He sounds very intelligent and I am sure will do great things with his future. As for ID, what is there revenue model? Is there one now, or planned? I looked through the FAQs (quickly of course) and did not see anything about costs.

Getting feedback isn't easy. Every time I (or you, or anyone else) posts something, some people will like what you say and some people won't. Some of those people will comment and some people, even the ones that like what you say, will stay inconveniently silent. Some posts generate tons of feedback and some don't. The number of comments a post gets isn't necessarily the best measure of popularity of a post. It's a constant struggle to get people excited enough to leave a comment. Intense Debate allows people to post a comment quickly and conveniently, which is especially important because many prospective commenters will just give up if faced with a complicated process. Good luck, CF
