I am Chris Farley and this is my blog, View from a Farley. I wish I could take credit for the name, but that particular stroke of wit was not my own. When I was in the seventh grade, I wrote a column by the same name for my school’s newspaper. The faculty advisor thought that “View from a Farley” would be a clever name. She was right. View from a Farley initially launched in February 2008 as a blog and podcast. The podcast was dropped shortly thereafter. The blog was dormant between September 2008 and July 2009.
I live in an undisclosed location outside New York City, and I attend a private school. Many of my thoughts on this blog are about education, and I often talk about public school as well. When I do talk about public school, I’m not making it up; I attended a public school from kindergarten through seventh grade. I left because even though the public school I attended was by any standard one of the best schools of any kind in the country, I was frustrated by the lack of resources at the school and the bumbling administration. My current school is better by a factor of a lot. The teachers are amazing, and the administration is almost too good to be true.
After school lets out, I participate in a yearly event called Digital Wave. Digital Wave is organized by one of the aforementioned amazing teachers and exists to allow faculty to learn about new, useful technology directly from students. It’s a fun avenue for me to hone my presenting skills. (That wasn’t sarcastic; I actually do like presenting).
During the summer of 2008 and again during the summer of 2009, I was employed at a local beach club. My duties are almost all office related, except for infrequent time that I get to spend outside making sure we log everyone who comes in. I do some accounting work, but the most important part of my job is talking to members. I have many hilarious stories, some of which I can share, some of which I cannot. I’ve never identified the club, but I know some locals read my blog and I wouldn’t want to be like Ellen Simonetti.
I’m 15 now and will enter my sophomore year of high school in September 2009. With college on the horizon, I imagine that I’ll be talking about that a lot more. I’m already obsessed with Stanford, but my sister and parents tell me not to get too attached.
My interests are varied, and I’m sure this will be reflected in my posts.
